Where My Judgment Says It Falls Short

For all its clarity of design, mectrics is not yet an infrastructure-grade tool. The most obvious limitation is platform: macOS 15+ only. A huge part of cross-border e-commerce runs on PCs, especially in sourcing offices, third-party logistics, and seller-support teams. A Mac-only menu bar monitor is a tool for a subset of operators — primarily brand owners, DTC founders, and freelancers who live on Macs. If your operations team runs PC machines, mectrics is a philosophy, not a solution.

The open-source model also cuts both ways. Free, MIT, and no telemetry is excellent for trust and terrible for survival. The project appears to be essentially one person with no monetization. There is no guarantee that alert rules, temperature module fixes, or the promised roadmap will land. Launch pages are crowded with single-maintainer tools that quietly stop being updated. This one already shows one review and a handful of followers, so the user base is tiny. If you depend on it, you’re depending on one person’s interest.
